Human, Hyperobject and Transformation #3

A production by Overhead Project

Performance, Creation Mijin Kim, Leon Börgens

Artistic Direction and choreography Tim Behren

A pas de deux between circus and dance

In this unusual pas de deux, dancer Mijin Kim and acrobat Leon Börgens move through a playing field of trust in their search to strike the right note with each other. Blueprint is a sensitive and humorous exploration that takes us into the subtle nuances of interpersonal relationships.

Circus and dance combine, literally turning the classically danced pas de deux on its head. Between togetherness, trust and subtle brutality, small and large gestures are created that remain in the memory. With tenderness and determination, the two movement virtuosos take us to the limits of their physical resources and their lustful exhaustion.

Simon Bauer’s music, composed especially for Blueprint, creates almost imperceptibly sculptural spaces. It builds bridges and draws canyons of sound between the audience and the pulsating bodies. Fog and light erect the transparent walls that make the otherwise hidden visible: A universe protected from the outside world for this intense physical dialog.

Blueprint marks the conclusion of the trilogy ‘Human, Hyperobject and Transformation’ by Overhead Project. The company is under the direction of circus artist and choreographer Tim Behren and has been developing its circus choreographic vocabulary on the border between contemporary circus and dance for over 15 years.

About Overhead Project

Overhead Project stands for performances at the interface between contemporary circus and dance – two languages that enable different perspectives on the human body and a multidimensional approach to space and architecture. The company, under the direction of choreographer and circus artist Tim Behren, developed from an intensive acrobatic duo work with former co-founder Florian Patschovsky. Today, the core artistic team consists of composer Simon Bauer, visual artist Charlotte Ducousso, performer Mijin Kim and other long-standing performers and thinkers from various fields.

Numerous productions and several guest choreographies for municipal theaters with large ensembles have been created so far. The company has received a number of international awards and choreography prizes for its works, including the Tabori Award 2022 from the Fonds Darstellende Künste and most recently the Kölner Tanztheaterpreis / Cologne Dance Theater Prize 2023 (for “What is left”).

With financial support from the National Culture Fund, Festivals 2024 program, the International Fund for Guest Performances in Dance NATIONALES PERFORMANCE NETZ, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media of Germany, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the Province of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the Goethe Institute.
