Alexander Aleksandrov Wladigeroff -composer, arranger, trumpet, & flugelhorn

Alexander and Konstantin were born in Sofia on August 17, 1978. in the home of the distinguished conductor and composer Alexander P. Wladigeroff (1933 – 1993) and the actress Velichka Chobanova – Wladigerova. They took their first steps in music under the guidance of their father and under the influence of the artistic spirit in the Wladigeroff household. The two are graduates of the “Lyubomir Pipkov” NMU and the “Pancho Wladigeroff” DMA in the city of Sofia, as well as the University of Music and Performing Arts and the Vienna Conservatory, where they have been living and working for more than 25 years, each following his own path in his development as a musician. The various projects that are judged together aim to present the musical tradition of the Wladigeroff family, its development over three generations and beyond. To the huge and inestimable artistic value of musical heritage, the two treat with deep respect. The preservation of its authenticity plays a leading role in developing their every musical invention and idea.

Over the past 17 years, the Wladigeroff brothers have released 6 albums of their own compositions: Wanderer In Love (2007), “For The Greatest And Little Things” (2011), “Dreaming of Dreams” (2014), “Dedicated Sounds” (2014) and “The Rag-Waltz Time” (Enja Records / 2017). In 2021 – 22 (during the Covid-pandemic!) the two twins work very inspired and record their album “Magie“ – Homage an Rainer Maria Rilke” (Aparté, Paris 2022), inspired by the genius, deep, philosophical poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 -1926).

And in 2022/2023 their latest album, titled: “The Merry Wladigeroff’s”, is released, which was realized with the main participation and creative input of their sister – Ekaterina Wladigerova, with whom, in the last 15 years, they have been actively working in their common musical Worldview „svetolged“ – in their joint project: “Trio Wladigerovi”. It contains the works of three generations of Wladigeroffs, in which they express their individuality and unique compositional handwriting and performing talent with ease and childlike unburdenedness. They are currently working on their 7th solo album, with the working title: “Inspired Songs”, which combines a true charitable sharing – and at the same time, a continuation of that, light, unadulterated, humorous, ethereal, intriguing, thread – felt by „Wladigerovian“ and attached in the sheet music!

The Wladigeroff brothers have been part of numerous productions at the Viennese Burgtheater (Akademietheater, Kasino) and Volkstheater, but have also performed at festivals ( „Viennale“ Cinema Festival, Salzburg Festspiele   Festival, Hallamasch Festival Vienna). They composed and performed “Salome” in the Theater “Maxim Gorky” – Berlin and perform concerts all over the world: for example in Vienna (Porgy and Bess, Birdland), International Jazz Festival “Sofia and Varna”, Moscow (Rus.), Krakow (PL.),Tavira (Port.), Festival of arts in Bulgaria in Toronto and Montreal, Boomtown Festival London, Klezmore Festival Vienna, Austria & Safad – Israel, Swing Utopia Festival in Tel Aviv and Melbourne, NYC Gypsy Festival, Classical March Days Festival – Rousse – Bulgaria, Art Festival Rome – Italy , Art Festival Istanbul, Pole Pole Festival Gent – Belgium, World Festival in Bangalore India.

The Wladigeroff brothers draw experience and inspiration from the wealth of Bulgarian folklore. They played in Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Great Britain, America, South Africa, Cuba, India , Canada, Germany, Italy , Luxembourg, Russia, Israel, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.

The concert performances of the two brothers are a living retrospect of music created over 120 years – by three different generations, who drew experience and inspiration from the wealth of Bulgarian folklore, which they have largely succeeded in developing in recent years into an effective and creative form and style of the so-called world eclectic style: “World Music” or “Balkan jazz”. With you! Enjoy it!
